Academics from Wolaita Sodo University in Ethiopia, and from University College Dublin, visited IT Carlow last week.

The group are partners with IT Carlow and Concern Worldwide in an EU project entitled Building Resilience Through Education (BRTE)  (http://brte.eu) that brings together academic, private and NGO organisations from Europe and Africa for the purpose of building resilience in communities.

The objective of the two-day visit was to learn more about IT Carlow’s successful engagement profile with industry and communities for the socio economic benefits of the region. The group also visited Teagasc in Oak Park, which has strong research connections with the college.

During the visit, the group met with IT Carlow teaching and research leaders as well as experts in industry support, innovation, academic quality, digital transformation, life-ling learning and internationalisation.

Director of the Office of Institutional Planning at IT Carlow Dr David Ryan coordinated the visit. He commented, “The visit from Wolaita Sodo University representatives has allowed Institute of Technology Carlow personnel to share best practice in terms of innovation in teaching, research and engagement with industry and society.  We are delighted to share our experience and expertise in order to support countries such as Ethiopia who are committed to providing  access to higher level education and the resulting benefits in terms of regional socio-economic development’.
