International Day at IT Carlow is usually one of the highlights of the academic year with the central services building a cacophony of music, dance, global foods and colour as students from up to 30 nations showcase their countries and cultures.
From tomorrow for one week, we will celebrate this day somewhat differently, but not less enthusiastically, with a virtual event entitled International Student Showcase 2021 featuring cooking, podcasts, recipes, country facts, quizzes and plenty of prizes to be won.
The international office invites you to visit https://www.itcarlow.ie/international/international-student-showcase.htm from tomorrow. The microsite will be online for a week until Wed. 20th April.
“Our international students add a rich multicultural dimension to life at IT Carlow during their time here. This last year has been very different for all students and especially difficult for our international students, who have experienced all the various levels of lockdown while away from their homes and families. It is therefore particularly important that we mark this popular college day this year and celebrate our cohort of international students who have braved the pandemic to pursue their dream of studying in Ireland”, said Donal McAlister, International Affairs Manager, IT Carlow.
Tomorrow’s online events will include links to videos and photographs with singing students, cultural entertainment and greetings from the international office staff and our international student ambassadors. There will be some nostalgia too and a trip down memory lane with photos from previous international days.
A podcast page will allow visitors to hear from international students from as far away as Trinidad and Tobago about life in a new country – including life in lockdown - and why they selected IT Carlow as their college of choice.
Foodies can avail of international recipes to try at home and the opportunity to view videos of students as budding chefs as they demonstrate how to cook up international fare. Photos of finished student dishes will be posted on the website with a prize for the best photo.
Quiz enthusiasts will enjoy the questions on student countries and the chance of winning a prize for their new gained knowledge. More than 10 countries will be showcased by our international students who have put together fun facts on their homelands. See what you already know and what you don’t!
