Details of Springboard 2015 Announced
The Institute of Technology Carlow ( IT Carlow) is to offer 400 fully-funded college places this September across a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to job seekers and those in receipt of social welfare payments in order to increase their future job prospects. The initiative forms part of the Government’s Springboard programme, announced today, aimed at reskilling those who lost their jobs during the recession.
IT Carlow is the market leader in the provision of Lifelong Learning programmes and this year’s Springboard programme will offer more than the double the number places available in previous years. The courses on offer straddle IT Management, Digital Marketing, Energy Management, Financial Services and Tourism and range from Certificates to Higher Diploma, Degree and Masters programmes. They have been specifically designed to address the skills needs of employers in the region, according to IT Carlow, ensuring graduates will be well placed to gain future employment. The programmes on offer are delivered on a part time basis and eligible participants will gain free access to the programme of study as well as maintain their benefit entitlements.
85% of graduates from IT Carlow’s Springboard courses in 2014 were in employment within six weeks of finishing their course. Nationally, more than half of all Springboard graduates in 2013 were in employment or self-employment within six months of completing their courses.
Head of Lifelong Learning at IT Carlow, Joe Collins, said, “IT Carlow has been very successful in producing graduates from a wide range of Springboard courses over the past number of years. Hundreds of students who successfully completed our programmes have returned to the workplace with more advanced skills in their own discipline or, in a lot of cases, skills in new disciplines. Others have returned to full-time education, using their experience on their Springboard courses to apply for advanced entry. What has been most rewarding for all of us who are involved in this work is the very high numbers who successfully complete their programme of study and then go on to re-establish their careers”.
Dr. Patricia Mulcahy, President of IT Carlow said, “Up-skilling is about building on existing qualifications and experience and it gives all of us an opportunity to change careers or to move to another level in our current careers. We are ready to accept applications for courses in a number of areas that are key to growth in the economy and I would encourage people who are eligible for Springboard to contact us."
