Carlow IT secured their passage to the semi-finals of the Sigerson Cup with victory over UL in Limerick on Thursday afternoon. Galway’s Barry McHugh was the star of the show for IT Carlow, who held on after leading by 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time. McHugh finished with 0-8, including six frees, for IT Carlow in a nailbiting encounter. Carlow led by 0-11 to 0-10 with three minutes left in ordinary time when the game was held up because of an injury to a UL player. However, when play resumed, the team maintained their composure to edge over the line. IT Carlow will now play the winners of tomorrow's UCC and IT Sligo clash in the semi-finals on February 20 in Cork, rounding a huge week for the college following our qualification earlier in the week for the quarter-finals of the Fitzgibbon Cup.
